The Sourdough Lesson: Why I Stopped Waiting for "Perfect"

We’ve all been there: harboring a deep desire to make a change, yet caught in a loop of hesitation. For me, that pattern is sometime fueled by a quiet, underlying fear of making a mistake. But sometimes, the universe sends a "synchronicity"—an unexpected clue that nudges me.
The Retrograde Rule
When I first began reflecting on this, Mercury was in retrograde. In the astrological world, this happens several times a year. It’s widely advised that when Mercury appears to move backward, it isn’t the best time to launch new projects. Instead, it’s a season for revisiting old work, deepening studies, reflecting through journaling and meditation which I love to do.
I’ve learned this the hard way. In the past, projects I started during retrograde were often plagued by delays or simply fizzled out. So, when I decided to finally take up sourdough baking—a passion of mine that fits my gluten-sensitive lifestyle—I was cautious.
The Imperfect Mixer
My husband, caught up in the excitement of my new hobby, surprised me by ordering a KitchenAid mixer. It arrived right in the heart of the retrograde period.
When we unboxed it, the finish wasn't what was advertised. When we called customer service, they admitted the inconsistency but told us there was "nothing they could do." We decided to keep it anyway, but the experience rattled me. I left the mixer in its box for over a week.
When my husband asked why I hadn't set it up, I told him I was waiting for the retrograde to end. I was honestly anxious that if I started now, the whole thing might literally fall apart! Eventually, he took it out himself and set it on the counter. It was a simple gesture, but one I was too paralyzed by "timing" to do myself.
Breaking the Myth of Perfection
That same day, I was attending a training session on deep coaching skills. (I am in a ten month coaching program). The instructor began discussing the “myth of perfection.” She said: “If you wait until something is perfect, you’re often never going to do it.”
That hit home. I realized I was using Mercury Retrograde as a shield to hide my own fears and anxieties. It wasn’t just about a bread mixer; it was about my fear of visibility and marketing my own services.
The "imperfect" mixer was actually a gift. It arrived in the "wrong" color, at the "wrong" time, yet it worked just fine. It was the universe’s way of saying: Stop trying to be perfect.
Stepping Into the Light
How many times do we create elaborate stories to avoid doing what we truly want? I realized I had been putting off letting people know who I am and what I do because I was waiting for a "perfect" moment that doesn't exist.
I am a Transformational Guide and Coach. My life’s work is helping people find their true path, release internal blocks, and align with their own intuitive knowing. I have walked this path myself as a lifelong practice, and I am here to support those who are ready for their own journey toward authenticity.
I’m done waiting for the stars to align perfectly. I’m ready to show up—imperfect finish and all.
